New Horn in Town

Bird Mansion spotted on a sunset stroll in College Greens, Sacramento

Oh, Capitol of the great state of California, why are you so flat?

I spent the weekend with my brother Jordan, his fiance Alexis, and their newborn baby Eli. Eli is 6 pounds tiny! Jordan and Alexis bought a house this month, which they had miraculously set up perfectly in the two weeks before Eli was born.

My dad and brother with Eli - Eli is the first child to make my dad a grandpa.
Their new home is in College Greens, a very suburban neighborhood on the American River. We took a sunset stroll to the river, which is wide and beautiful, if you can look past the creepy 40-something year old man in a baggy t-shirt standing alone in the bushes at sunset, back facing the river.

Madeline and Eli
Its been a long time since I spent time with an infant. I was surprised at many things: the tinyness, the vulnerability, and the copious sleeping. My head was filled with horror stories of new parents that don’t sleep for months, but this little angel awoke only once in the night I spent there, and he didn’t even reach a full cry. This could be the calm before the storm. Only time will tell.

Baby Eli

I’m tickled to be an aunt for the first time and I can’t wait to watch this little one grow.
